In order to deal with challenges related to Teaching, Research and Management, The IT Means Center became on January 2014, the Information Technology Department.
The DSI ensures the right coordination of the IT means provided by the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne. With a workforce of 54 people over its different sites, it is responsible for the Information technology and the hardware making up the IT Infrastructure of the University (equipment and software). It also provides to its students and its staff a connection to different communication networks and general community interest services such as Wi-Fi connection, a Virtual Office, a messaging service, telephony, videoconferencing and cross-disciplinary management applications.
This infrastructure has been developed to ensure a high level security of the data as optimal as possible; as for the equipment of the workplaces, the ITO provides to the users the entire computer hardware required (in order to work as efficiently as possible). Then the Customer Support Department IT engineers ensure maintenance of the services provided by the DSI on each campus.
Figures: The Virtual Office of the URCA is used by 20 000 people each month. More than 250 000 connections to the Wi-Fi network of the URCA are recorded monthly, and we manage about 38 000 mailboxes for the entire University.
The Wi-Fi network of the URCA covers all the campuses of the region Champagne-Ardenne. Two networks are accessible: Eduspot and Eduroam.
Euduspot: this network is accessible to the staff and the student and also for the persons invited by the staff. To access the homepage, you just have to connect your device to an Internet module Eduspot, then launch your browser and follow the procedure.
Eduroam: The Eduroam service is accessible to the staff and the student of higher education and also for the persons invited by the staff during their foreign professional travels.
The Information Technology Office revolves around 5 departments and its activities are dedicated to all the campuses of the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne based in Reims, Chalons, Chaumont, Charleville-Mezieres and Troyes:
Network and Telecom Department:
o Implementation of the entire communication network I.e. thanks to the RENATER Network (National Network of electronic communication dedicated to the Technology, the Teaching and the Research) and the TELEMUS Network implemented by the Regional Council, the connection between each campus of the University is optimal,
o Providing services of telephony : mobile telephony and TOIP for each campus,
o Managing the messaging service.
Infrastructure and System Department:
o Managing all the servers and central operating system required for the good running of the applications and communication networks,
o Setting up the backup systems and the data storage.
o Managing the entire Information Technology of the University,
o Implementing and making sure applications used by the students and the staff are running smoothly such as APOGEE, SIFAC, HARPEGE, the Virtual Office…
Customer Support Department:
o Providing a technical assistance service on each campus,
o Advising the users for their purchases : hardware and software,
o Resolving and preventing actions against the potential incidents of the Information technology.
o Secretarial work, reception….
Support to the others services of the DSI: organization and administrative work.
