Platinium3D

NUM3D is a collaborative digital engineering platform in Champagne-Ardenne shared with universities (UTT, URCA including the IFTS unit at Charleville-Mézières, etc.) funded by the State, the ERDF and the Champagne-Ardenne Region.

Its role is to give companies in Champagne-Ardenne the opportunity to move up a technological and scientific level with a theme such as rapid prototyping and fast manufacturing (around ten technologies), 3D scanning (scanners, 3D deformation camera and other spatial acquisition systems) as well as digital engineering.

Faced with a complex economic and industrial situation, the digital chain is a source of significant direct and indirect gains. Whether through innovation and the early consideration of all constraints (we know that about 80% of costs are determined from the earliest design stages!), or by the insertion of SMEs in a globalised economic context (new markets won, the ability to respond to outsourcers), the digital chain is an indispensable tool for R&D and for companies.

It is not possible for SMEs to have all the skills and tools in-house.

The solutions exist in Champagne-Ardenne, particularly in Charleville-Mézières.

The main players in research and development in Champagne-Ardenne are partners of the NUM3D platform, which has most of the current resources.

NUM3D is a technical platform created as part of the State-Region plan in Champagne-Ardenne to deal with issues related to digital engineering and reverse-engineering (reconstruction). Important resources are thus put in place, in a coherent way and distributed in Troyes (UTT), in Reims (URCA), in Chalons en Champagne (ENSAM) and notably in Charleville-Mézières with a Technological Research Team (CReSTIC) at URCA and a Micado technical centre dedicated digital engineering (DINCCS), to stimulate R&D for companies and support public research programmes.

Research projects, often in partnership with industrialists and projects for companies, focus on different aspects of the digital chain:

  • design taking business knowledge into account,
  • simulation/optimisation (mechanical resistance, shaping, increase in mass of parts, etc. )
  • rapid prototyping (parts manufacturing, tool manufacturing, functional studies, etc.)
  • digitisation/reconstruction (creation of the CAD model of a physical part, comparisons, etc.)
