Our doctoral schools

With coordination between the research policy and the training policy led by the institution, the 4 doctoral schools at the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne are at the heart of scientific application clusters.

The ABIES doctoral school is thus placed at the heart of the internationally-focused multidisciplinary agricultural science, environment, biotechnology and bioeconomy cluster (AEBB) focused on the bioeconomy, agriculture 4.0 and the wine industry 4.0.

The SFS (Fundamental Sciences and Health) doctoral school is at the heart of the Health scientific cluster, championing scientific niches of excellence and rich and varied medical and paramedical training.

The SNI doctoral school is at the heart of the digital and engineering Sciences cluster focused on high-performance computing, industry 4.0, materials and technological change.
The SHS doctoral school is at the heart of the Human and Social Sciences (SHS) cluster brought together by a House of human sciences.

The SFS, SNI and SHS doctoral schools are supported by the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne.
The ABIES doctoral school is co-accredited by Université Paris Saclay.

They are put under the authority of their respective directors and assisted by a scientific and teaching board. Their role is decisive as regards the definition and management of the institution's doctoral policy whether it is the allocation of resources, the selection of applicants, monitoring of students or their professional integration.

The main mission of our 4 doctoral schools is to enhance the professional integration of doctors, by providing them with in particular a rich and varied multidisciplinary culture. They organise vivas for PhD theses and HDR’s (post-doctoral accreditation to supervise research), and carry out professional integration follow-ups for their doctoral fellows. They guarantee the best possible studying conditions for doctoral students, from enrolment to the viva and the digital submission of their thesis.

The ABIES doctoral school

The University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne (URCA) has based its research and its educational policy on interdisciplinarity applied in particular to agricultural sciences, the environment, biotechnology and the bioeconomy. URCA developed its "agricultural science" research themes as early as the 1990s, with activities focused on the production, transformation and non-food use of these renewable resources, in close partnership with SFR Condorcet (FR CNRS) and by also including the socio-economic aspect of the bioeconomy.

The doctoral school associated with this theme is the ABIES doctoral school, for which URCA is co-accredited; it has sixty doctoral students and around fifty postdoctoral HDRs at the Reims site. Doctoral students benefit from a varied and complete training and research environment within ABIES with many enriching options for national and international mobility, a wide variety of training courses dedicated to doctoral students and assistance from supervisors.
