Hardware section

This section is intended to provide you information necessary to install and use the Wiimote on a computer, and everything to use the Wiimote with Avogadro. This information are not exhaustive.


  • What do you need?

You will need:

  • One computer with Windows or Linux

    • Windows: Testing conducted under XP and Seven;
    • Linux: testes on Ubuntu 9.10 and 10.4, and Debian Squeeze.

  • 1 Wiimote and 1 Nunchuk

    • The unofficial controllers may not work.

  • 1 or 2 sensor bar (= IR bar or 2 candles:)

    • We recommend using two infrared bars and place them like this: /\ . In practice, motion detection is more significant.

  • A Bluetooth device


  • Use the Wiimote to a computer

Below, two resume to help you step by step to connect the Wiimote to a computer:

Summary to "Connect Wiimote on Windows":

We recommend the use of driver/software BlueSoleil (fee) to make your life easier. Other methods have drawbacks in most cases.

Once connected to the device manager, the connection in the software will not ask you for additional synchronization action. However, when you turn the Wiimote, you need to reconnect to the device manager.

Summary to "Connect Wiimote on Linux":

Install the package Bluez.

The connection in the software will require you to press the "1" and "2" of the Wiimote.
